Melancholie - if you are getting a new quote from AXA or anyone else do make sure that you don't just accept their first offer - they may have a bit of flexibility on price and you might as well ask!
  • Thanks Scarlett. :)

The reason I knew that as that is about the going rate across the industry.

    You could try http://www.thmarch.co.uk/personal/jewellery-valuables

Be aware of any policy conditions which will typically only cover the ring whilst being worn or whilst it's in the same room as you eg bedside table / washing up or in a safe

£100k M&S Standard (underwritten by Axa) has a £10k limit for any single unspecified item and £25k valuables (using the traditional definition of valuables) and £15k of PP cover only comes in at £157 for my home address which is less than just the ring

Obviously for a lot of ultra budget insurers/ products there will be a large premium for adding such an item because its outside of their target market but a half decent product/ insurer wouldnt be anywhere close to that as an AP

InsideInsurance - thanks for that. Just ran a quick quote through M&S (renewal coming up in November) and they seem very reasonable with good cover limits.

I don't think I have tried a quote from them before but will def consider this year.

    As a thought,

You are paying £167 for buildings AND contents which seems a cracking price.

You are also lucky to have a ring worth £6,500.

Just to throw it out there but are your sums insured adequate for Buildings and contents?
  • Axa, both direct and through various affinity schemes, have a couple of products that have high limits and good pricing and have done for a couple of years. M&S frequently has good cashback offers via Quidco hence why I go via them rather than direct to Axa.

For us NFU pricing is always way off the mark and I cannot yet justify Hiscox or Chubb to myself.

What I've not 100% managed to work out is why they went for a strong direct Home product but then a budget broker for Motor

If you're talking about Axa, it's probably due to them lacking proper direction. Do you remember them selling their direct personal lines to RAC as they could see no future in it. Fair few years later they saw a future in it and went into the direct market big time
