There's a few recommendations on this thread https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/4704701 to get you started. It would help if you gave some indication of budget and how long you want to stay. You can get hotels from £40 upwards, but you may want something more than a hostel. Plan on going more than a couple of nights to improve your chances of seeing the northern lights - I was there recently, and the whole of Iceland was under blanket cloud from Monday thru Thursday.
  • thanks thats really helpful, have emailed a few companies, dont have any idea of budget! want nice accommodation as its a 40th surprise so no hostels

The Radisson Blu Saga is a nice hotel, and this time around we stayed in the Icelandair Natura. Both are near Reykjavik airport (the domestic airport in the city, not Keflavik which is about 40 miles away). We had a junior suite in the Radisson - hotel and flight cost £1100 for 7 nights. The flights at the time were £580 for the two of us, so it seemed like a good price for us. We had the 'entry level' room at the Icelandair hotel as we were only staying a couple of nights, but the rooms the next grade up (I think they call them Poet rooms) looked much nicer.
If you don't mind driving, it can be cheaper and more convenient to hire a car - you don't need a 4x4, a standard saloon car would be fine.
