Best car for Bio Diesel?

Ebay charges private sellers higher commission than businesses. I would imagine it's to avoid income tax and VAT.westwood68 wrote: »They're probably not registered as a business for tax and to avoid eBay commision.
On another point, selling the bio in IBC's they just pay the tax relevant to heating oil as they're not selling it as a fuel for a vehicle. If the punter decides to stick it in their tank, then they are the ones avoiding the tax. (which incidentally doesn't have to be paid if a private household uses less than 2500 litres/year)
It's a dodge but isn't much of a scam really
You may have a point about the heating oil part as the ad doesn't mention cars (except the category). So would it be the buyer that could land in trouble by putting fuel intended for heating in their vehicle? In a similar style to people who use red diesel on the road.0 -

But if you are Ok to use 2500 litres of it, how would they know it is over / under this amount?
The other link (sheffield) do sell it for road use BUT charge more, why would anyone voluntarily buy it for road use to pay 30p more a litre if you can use 2500 litres without paying fuel duty? We’ve had to remove your signature because your opinion differs from ours. Any of the pre cdi Mercedes with the old 6 cylinder lump are good to run on filtered waste cooking oil and new cooking oil.
E300, E250 or C250 i think were the ones. The early C220 might be ok but not sure when it went over to cdi.
I put veg in a 95 Xantia with the 1.9 XUD. Any XUD will do as long as it has the bosch diesel pump. I think all the 2.1's were not up to veg oil use.
There are some very good websites that can be more specific.
Have google.
I think the 2.2 and 2.0 dti lumps were ok for bio use but not sure about veg. Though most cars can be run on veg with a twin tank system.
One of the biggest issues with bio these days is getting a good supplier.
And unless you can find a source of really cheap used oil it will be economically unviable to make your own.0 -
It must only cost pennies to make this stuff in quantity, after all it is waste oil that is cleaned, treated and resold
I think you need to do some research i to how bio is made.
It is actually rather complicated to make good bio.
Don't forget that a lot of bio users also add cetane improver and some cheap 2 stroke to the tank to help things along.
A lot of blackcabs in London have been running on Bio for several years now.
Though personally i would only run the 2.7 Nissan one on Bio or indeed veg oil. The transit 2.4 and the VM 2.5 are a no no in my book.
Actually come to think about it why not try to find a Nissan Terrano or Ford Maverick with the hardy 2.7 Nissan lump then run on a mix of bio and veg with a bit of normal diesel in the winter!0 -
Terranos only do 24 mpg, well mine did and it was very well serviced, might squeeze 30 on a very long run.
So hardly good economy.Be happy...;)0 -
Because when the customs and excise impound your vehicle and send you a bill for vat evasion you ££ savings turn into a nightmare.
They know because your keep recipts for fuel bought and can work out your mileage from its last service or MOT.
I thought the duty was only exempt if your making the fuel yourself?? So a quick knock on the door and they ask to see your equipment and how you turn the waste oil into biofuel.
Although things changed so often. Its hard to keep up. I think thats why they allowed the limit to save knocking on people's doors to check.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
Exempt producers/users
If you have produced or used less than 2,500 litres of:- any biofuel, or
- any other fuel substitute or additive

A mate had one and got 30mpg all day long. More if he drove like an angel.
The point is it can run safely on veg at likely less than 90ppl and on bio at less than £1 per litre.
Doesn't help if it will do 50 mpg then break 100 miles later now does it!0 -

Surely only an issue if you make it yourself or buy it without duties paid.
As the OP has a price for "road going" and one for "off road" the on road one must be duty and tax paid.
There was a lot of talk on the board i got my info n veg oil use about the 2500 litre limit and how likely enforcement action was.
Though 2500 is actually plenty per year and the genersl concensus was it was to help reduce people buying veg oil from Costco and pouring it in the tank and driving.0 -
Forgot to mention the penalty for using bio without the duty paid is similar to using red diesel.
So the OP's saving is mainky duty avoidance of approx 40ppl using the prices from his second link.
Though as the seller gives discount for large quantities he likely knows who is using it for what.
And bio doesn't last as long as diesel in storage.0
