Return faulty item to argos

Options
My mum bought me a moses basket from argos. She is in Wales and I am in Scotland. She purchased it on her card and had it delivered to my address.

It was delivered on 2nd October whilst we were in the middle of unpacking after recently moving house. The box the moses basket came in was opened and destroyed with the other moving boxes.

It was only today that we tried to assemble the moses basket as my due date is fast approaching. The screws do not fit the holes for the hood and the stand is very flimsy and I would not feel comfortable in putting a child in this basket.

My mum has sent me the conformation email that she had when she ordered the item.

My question is will argos give me a refund for this item without the original packaging and without the card that it was purchased on. I do not want a replacement item because I have lost faith in it. It is also an online exclusive item, so can I take it back to an argos store?

Your best bet would be to contact Argos and ask them, or at least your mother should. They may or may not allow returns to store but it is your mum is the one who has a contract with them so they can refuse to help you.

They are unlikely to give you a cash refund if she paid with her card so you may have to accept a replacement or credit note. Maybe if it was sent back to the online team they would refund your mum and she can buy you a different one or just transfer you the money to you for you to choose your own.

Doubt a refund but as mentioned could you not ask for a exchange for a different brand or model of moses basket?

For faulty goods you don't need the box ,they will most likely put the refund on a gift card as it has to go back onto the card it was bought with.

You definitely don't need the box, it's the law.
  • My mum just rang argos who told her that we dont need the box as it will be going on the skip anyway and for me to ring them to arrange for a suitable time for them to collect it and they would refund her card.

I just rang them and spoke to the most obnoxious bloke. First of all he said that I would have to have a replacement, I said I dont want a replacement as I have lost faith in the product. He said I would have to package it up in the original packaging and he would arrange for a courier to collect it. I told him I didnt have the original packaging and he said that I would have to have store credit then because they could not sell it on. I said why would you want to sell it because the goods are faulty. He said, well I only have your word for that dont I and I cannot assess whether the goods are faulty or not until we get them back and the courier will not accept it without a box.

He left it telling me to return it to the store because of the lack of box and when they get the goods back, they will assess whether they are faulty or not when they are returned to the warehouse. He will put a note on the file to refund my mum once they have the goods back and are found to be faulty, otherwise it will have to be a credit note but he cannot guarantee that the store will even take the item because it is an online exclusive item.

I dont know if I feel comfortable in leaving the shop (if they will even take it) without proof that they will refund my mums card or not.

While he is wrong saying it has to be in original packaging he is right that a courier won't collect it with no packaging, can you use a box from something else to pack it in securely?
