There's no spetic tank run off that I know of. What happens when you connect it to a water butt and the butt gets full, does the overflow simply continue into the soakaway?

A soak away is usually a pit filled with coarse aggregate and it ought to be separated from the surrounding soil by something like geomembrane, but frequently isn't.

It just absorbs run off from roofs, or an overflow from a water butt. You can get diverters that send water into a butt until it's full, then switch to the soakaway or drain.

Underground water storage is quite expensive to install and altogether different from soakaways.
