Best advice is to download software only from the manufacturer's page.
Otherwise you can easily end up with software bundled with potentially unwanted programmes.

Agreed, just go to http://www.avast.com/en-gb/index, making sure that you pick the free version (assuming you don't want to pay)and checking to see if it tries to sneakily download Chrome and make it your default browser.
