Misleading eBay ad

Hi All,
Long time lurker rare poster here.
I recently purchased what I thought was 3 of an item, the ad read " 2x med. shorts ....... As have xl."
I did miss an update to the listing to say the xl had sold my fault I know for not reading the post again before bidding.
But the package arrived today and one one item inside.
I used the contact seller option asking why only one pair as I wouldn't have bid as high as I did for just one.
The response was "Sorry for confussion, but it was an add for 3 seperate pair, if your not happy i will take them back as i have others whom asked if they had all gone"
I am unsure where to go from here, I want the item actually I want all three. I will have to pay to return them and them go through the process of getting a refund.
Will I get the initial postage back?
Can I open a case to demand the other pair? Or maybe a reduction in payment due to the misleading ad.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Was this an auction - you cannot list 3 seperate items in one auction?
Sounds like one of them misleading listings where the seller is saving fees by listing 3 items in one listing.
But if you bid and won - i assume the other sales were done outside of Ebay.
Either way - all you can do is leave a negative - with low stars for as described.
OR
Return, ask buyer to then refund return postage. If they say no - again neg the seller.0 -
Yes it was an auction.
The listing was very misleading as it said 2x med. for sale so it definitely looked like it would be atleast two of them if not the third that was mentioned further down his listing.
So my best option is to ask for a full refund including return postage?
I really wanted the item though

You could ask for a partial refund if you're happy to keep the item.
Otherwise you can either just keep the item or return for a full refund, but you will have to pay return postage.0 -
Can we see said listing? It would help.0

I would be expecting two as well.0 -
I agree that the ad is very misleading I read it as they are selling two pairs of medium and are telling you that they have one pair of xl listed elsewhere. So yes I would expect more than one pair ie two pairs of medium.0

I admit to not noticing the update so it's my fault that I paid more than I would for 3 bug I most definitely feel I extremely overpaid for two and only got one.
Most definitely feel annoyed0 -
What a daft listing.
Dont know how they have kept good feedback.
As flyonwall said - ask for partial refund.0
