it might have seemed a funny question, however if you fit a poly roof & remove the existing lockable doors & replace with say normal french doors (non lockable) & you get broken into then your home insurance is normally void, so it's a point worth remembering, but to answer your question yes it is noisy

Thanks - home insurance isn't something I'd thought of so thanks for that.

Will look at getting a quote for tiled but now I'm concerned that it might need building regs.
  • how about changing the poly for glass ? that doesn't effect your insurance & will be quietier
I'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.

You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.

Yeah, I was just looking at that but I liked the idea of the poly being tinted. Our garden gets the sun (when there is any) from about 8AM through to 8PM so ideally wanted some shade from the sun.

With a glass roof, would a ceiling fan be sufficient in the sun?

Thanks. I think I'm going to have to give the conservatory company a ring for a chat about it because I'm so confused right now.

Even in light rain the noise on ours is very amplified so that you'd think it was pouring down - when its actually pouring down you can't have a conversation in there or indeed in our attached kitchen/diner (though we just shut the adjoining doors which silences the noise).

I find it quite nice in a gentle rain but if you wanted to use the room all year round then glass or tiles is the way to go.

just to clarify in our situation , we have a 2.4 by 4.5 `lean to` with a poly roof ,with normal rain , if you dont have the doors to the lean to closed AND the internal dining room doors closed that go to the lounge , the noise drowns out the TV
Never, under any circumstances, take a sleeping pill and a laxative on the same night.

Having just fell off my chair at the price of a tiled conservatory roof, we have opted for a glass roof. We'll see how it goes and if it gets too hot in the sun, we will look at getting some blackout blinds fitted to the roof so hopefully best of both worlds at a fraction of the cost.

In the summer we just open the back doors but we also have a ceiling fan fitted which I would highly recommend as it allowed us to use the room all summer even when it was 30C outside

Thanks - yeah, we're having a ceiling fan/light cluster fitting in the centre of the roof and we've got 4 opening windows and french doors so I'm sure that'll make it more usable.

We've just had the quote for the glass roof and the glass will be Pilkington Activ Blue so also has some sun protection qualities.
