Fixed price deal - is it still worth switching?

This is something I've been meaning to ask for a while, but we are on a fixed tarrif with British Gas where we have an agreement that we pay a fixed amount each month (£60/mth gas £65/mth electric). It doesn't matter if we are in debit or credit (I claim the in-credit amount back) we still pay the same. That way I can budget better.

Now here's the question, is it worth us switching to another firm? I still want the same sort of deal.

Cheers!!

All suppliers offer payment by monthly DD. It's variable depending on your consumption. If you give regular reads (at least quarterly), it will be adjusted in line with your usage.
Since we have no idea what tariff you are on, we can't say if it's worth switching. Use any comp site with your annual kWh consumption to find the cheapest tariff for your region.
But I don't quite understand why continually paying too much and having to regularly recover the credit in your account is 'better budgeting'? Why not agree with BG to reduce your DD to the correct level?
Your DD should be set at one twelfth of your annual consumption.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
  • Surely one of the essences of budgeting is ensuring your expenses meet your obligations? It seems you play a game of "let's see how much money I'm getting from BG in the summer", and "Let's see how much I now have to find in the winter".

I'm with macman on this one, any other energy company will offer you this type of "deal", they'll probably be scratching their head as to why you want it though!

surely it matters if your in debt, DD is hiked if in debt to cover future costs, if you stick to a direct debit that doesn't cover your bills, then its only going to get worse in the end for you.

I think you will find you will budget better if you pay an amount that covers your consumption, rather than pay an amount an HOPE it covers your bill
