Failed delivery query...

Options
Hi guys, please can someone advise me on what to do with regards to a failed delivery??.

I purchased a garden shed over the internet at the weekend and received an e-mail stating that the shed would be delivered today (Tuesday) anytime between 6am and 8pm.

My husband stayed in all day (cannot work due to illness) so he wouldn't miss the delivery even though there were a few things he really could have done with going out for (collect prescription and pay a couple of bills).

At 5.25pm we received a phone call from the suppliers telling us that the item was actually out of stock and the earliest they would be able to deliver the shed would now be next Tuesday at the earliest.
I was not happy about this and asked for a reduced price as some form of compensation for a wasted day but was told they don't do that. The man I spoke to gave me an e-mail address to complain to but I am not sure what to state in my complaint as I'm not sure if we are in a position to request a form of compensation as my husband hasn't lost a days work?

any help suggestions will be gratefully received, thanks in advance, Debsf1

If you cannot prove any quantifiable losses, then you're not really entitled to much. There's no monetary value for inconvenience, and as you've said yourself, it's not like your husband was doing much else anyway.
If you paid extra for next day/named day delivery though, I would expect that refunding.

Was the suppliers the same company your ordered from or did you order the shed from a retailer like Argos for delivery direct from supplier.

If you ordered from a retailer then it is them your contract is with and you should take it up with them.

Debsf1, have a read of MSE's Failed Delivery article.

You may get some ideas about your entitlements from it, but as others have said, don't expect too much.

Hi, guys, thanks for your responses.
The shed is / was being delivered by the sellers own people. The bit that has peed me off is that their web site stated 'next working day delivery'.
The shed was ordered on Saturday so fair enough I wouldn't have expected it to be delivered yesterday, and besides the delivery days could be chosen by the buyer with today being the earliest for delivery so I chose that as we need the shed pdq, and the confirmation e-mail I received stated that the shed would be delivered today between 6am & 8pm. I know that the van would not have been loaded this morning for delivery today, it would have been loaded yesterday and packed in the order of delivery timings and route.
It hacks me off to think that they knew yesterday that the shed would not be delivered today, tomorrow or at all this week, yet they waited until late afternoon today before contacting us with the news..So annoyed!!
