First utility.
Bit of a funny question, but here goes: I opened an account with First Utility in early last year; about 2 months later, Scottish Power offered me a better deal which I accepted. When I got the final bill through from First Utility, it said that I owed them approx: £300 for ONE MONTHS gas usage. I asked them to prove that I used that amount, which they didn't prove or otherwise. I've been getting letters etc through from them, and now debt collection agencies and "solicitors" asking for their money. I've refused up to this point. With the most recent letter from a "solicitors", I called them up, again asked them to prove I'd used that much gas in a month (baring in mind it was late winter/early spring, so although we had the heating on, it wasn't on all the time!). Again they haven't proved either way my usage, they just keep talking about the meter readings I gave them.
Where do I stand with this? It's been well over a year now, the letters are coming less and less frequently as well. Should I just stand my ground because I believe they have their figures wrong, or do I run the risk of feeling their wrath?
On another note, Scottish Power are one of the worst companies I've ever had the mis-pleasure of dealing with. They put up my dd amount without much notice and when I spoke to them saying I couldn't afford £130 a month, and that it seemed a touch high for the summer months, the guy said "sorry, not much we can do. You either pay or go elsewhere". Luckily I did before they announced the recent price rise.
Anyway, any help would be great.
Thanks
Tom:)

I can't remember all the meter readings, maybe it's something I should keep on file huh?!
The tariff was just your run of the mill, online doobry.2014 wins:

You need to know how many units you used between starting with them and finishing with them.
Then you need to know standing charge per day + price per unit of usage, and you can figure out what you really owe them.0 -
