Economy 7 advice please

Hi, we have recently moved into a Local Authority house that is on Economy 7. We have 2 separate issues.
1) We are not sure what we are doing - some of the storage heaters have 2 wall switches - on peak and off peak others only one, and some have a control on the top min / max and others don't. Does this mean the ones with one switch only come on 'off peak'? I'm sorry to be dense :o Just worried about the whole set up. At least with oil we could physically see how much we had / used!

2) I have just had a letter from SSE about their price rise which will put us at:
Standing Charge 14.08 p (per day)
Day Energy 18.45
Night Energy 08.08

I have been getting other quotes to see if switching will help, but because we have been here such a short time we don't have a genuine idea of what our usage is going to be like. It is a 3 bed property, there are 4 of us - if that helps. I have found cheaper usage but the standing charges have been higher so I don't know where I am better off.

Any advice is welcome. Thank you, if you got this far.
Still looking for the plot...... Anyone seen it???

Can you post some model numbers for the heaters?

The ones with a peak supply probably have a small convector to use if/when they run out of stored heat.

The input and output dials - use the input dial to set how much heat you want stored. You will have to experiment with this a little. Wait until the evening and turn the input until you hear a click, that should be a good place to start. The output dial just releases the heat faster, and is best left alone, unless you are freezing your bits off.

Just to add, if you have storage heaters, you will likely be a high user (I sometimes use 50+ units a night in winter), therefore you will usually be better off with low unit charges and a higher standard charge.

That said, use a comparison site to determine the best deal.

Thank you for the reply. I will check them all tomorrow, and post the model numbers.
