HI
Please could anybody give me any advice on how to deal with my bank The Royal Bank of Scotland - I have been in today to deposit some money into my current account and have been told that I cannot put money into my current account because they say "there is no operation whatsoever for this account" which is crazy because I deposited an amount approximately 4 weeks ago.
I have an overdraft of approx 1600.00 pounds and I have been trying to put money in slowly to try and lower this account - I admit I don't use this account other than adding credits in to try and clear my overdraft. My original overdraft set at 4000.00 and it has come down to 1600.00.
This bank was originally a joint account with my ex wife but she has gone bankrupt and I have been left with the debt - I was told by my bank that I cannot put anymore monies into this account for what reason I don't know - they say that it has been passed over to a debt creditor without notifying me is this legal?
All I have tried to do is clear my debt up and they are asking for the full amount and I have not got anywhere near this amount I was trying to add 30.00 pounds credit when I was stopped.
Please can you advise???

The account will have been transfered over to Credit Management Services (CMS), who are our debt management team. Someone in the branch should be able to put you in contact with them to make a formal arrangement to pay off the debt. There will have been a No Operations marker on the account as soon as we were informed that you and your partner were having a dispute. I assume you were served by someone who is not aware that the marker can be over-ridden for pay ins.
If the account is under the control of CMS, the staff should be able to tell you by looking on a system to see who the relationship manager is. They can then get you the number to call. You should have recieved a letter stating that the account was being transfered, but it is possible it either was posted back to branch (which is not unusual with disputes) or to your ex-wifes address.
Just be careful when calling CMS as some can be a little rude, just explain your situation and let them know that you are happy to make an arrangement to pay off the debt, just dont get worked up or start shouting, it doesnt get you anywhere.
Hope that helps!0
