Insurance claim - time off work allowable?

Hello MSE,
we have suffered a fire at home due to to a faulty dishwasher. The manufacturer has admitted liability and asked us to obtain quotes for the repair and redecoration required in our kitchen.
This will need 10 visits by different tradespeople – 2 each (for comparative quotes requested by insurer) in 5 specialist trades (flooring, plumber, electrician, carpenter, decorator). I will need to take time off work to let these people in the house and talk them through the work required.
Can we claim that lost work time as part of our overall insurance claim?

Are you claiming off your insurance or directly from the manufacturer?
Your insurance wont cover it but it would form part of your uninsured loss recover from the manufacturer. However, to validate the claim they will check that (a) you did actually lose income because of it and (b) that it was reasonable to take time off work rather than arranging appointments at the time you weren't working0 -
Thanks for your quick reply.
We are claiming off the manufacturer.
Some of the tradespeople may be able to visit out of hours, but most want to come during the working day.
Knowing that ours is an insurance claim, some tradespeople will only provide a quote for a charge.0 -

Sorry, newbie with fat fingers... double posted by mistake...0 -
if you use up annual holiday entitlement then you suffer no actual economic loss, so can't claim for anything. Only if you take the absence unpaid and your employer confirms this can you claim for lost earnings.0

In which case yes you can claim but only if you actually suffer a loss.
I would reword what you saying to them, you are claiming off a third party, it is up to the third party if they chose to pay it themselves or involve their insurers. The problem with mentioning insurers is that many quotes don't end up with the job being awarded hence wanting to charge for it.
I'm sure the trades people dont want to come out of hours but I am sure you dont want to take a day off work either. There is a difference between not wanting to do something and not being able to do something.0 -
Thanks for the replies.
I feel better equipped to do battle with the insurance company...0
