Vesticular event / stroke in older dog

Our little terrier (14) suffered what was described as a mini stroke on Sunday. Having done a bit of research it would appear to be more likely to be vesticular syndrome. She has had an anti infalmmatory steroid injection and is on blood thinning meds and anti motion sickness meds.
She was quite bad with drunken walking and falling over initially. She seems a lot better already and can get up and down stairs, her appetite is back and she is much steadier on her feet.
Just wondering what experience others have of this and how long their dogs were affected? Reading on the net, it can clear up within 72 hours, or take weeks. The fact that she seems to be recovering quite quickly is hopefully a good sign.
Thanks
Olias

Sorry to hear about this, as I understand it, the prognosis is generally good if the dog is in otherwise good health.
Hope you have many more years with her. Please forgive me if my comments seem abrupt or my questions have obvious answers, I have a mental health condition which affects my ability to see things as others might.0 -

Our previous dog had this ,it is actually called vestibular neuritis, similar to vertigo. We were very worried when we found her collapsed and unable to get up,she was elderly too.I really thought that it was the end for her.But after treating with drugs,(can't remember what the vet gave her) she recovered very well and went on for another 2 years,to over 15.
I think it took her about a week till she was totally better.Maybe it does take longer in older dogs. But i am sure she will be fine.0 -
Little girl dog is currently being assessed for IVD. She's had two attacks in the past 18 months. At present, we're just monitoring the situation (she has had antibiotics etc in case of other causes) as neither attack has lasted long and she has recovered quickly (around 24 hours)
I found this to be an interesting and reassuring read

Hope your little one comes through it well - it sounds as though she will.0
