To switch or not to switch that is the question....
Hi,
I'm currently with Npower on fixed tarrifs Energy Online October 2013 for Gas and Electricity Online November 2013 for Electric which come to an end at the end of this month and next month respectively. I'm considering whether to switch to EDF Blue+ Price Promise March 2015 with unit prices of 11.9805p for electric and 3.5744p for Gas (standing charge 45p a day) or alternatively Scottish Power Fixed price Energy March 2015 (11.1017p for electric / 3.3611p for gas, standing charge 68p a day though ) which compared to the Npower standard tariff I'm due to move onto shortly are both about £150 a year cheaper for my consumption (Scottish Power is about £10 cheaper according to the cheap energy club comparison). Alternatively I could switch to the Npower or EDF fixes till March 2017 but they're quite a bit more expensive , unit prices of 14.7p for electric with EDF and 15.55p with Npower and 4.056p for Gas with EDF and 3.9396p with Npower , standing charge 45p a day with EDF and 48p a day with Npower. I'm tempted to go for the EDF March 2015 one because it is so much cheaper (for now at least) but I guess I also need to factor in the fact Npower haven't paid me my £100 (or is it £90) direct debit discount for the first 12 months yet (it was due on the 8th October) and from what I've read I suspect I won't be credited that until my next bill which isn't till Feb next year! So I either switch to EDF and potentially lose my Npower direct debit discount credit or stay where I am with the promise of getting that direct debit discount (even if it's not till next Feb) but pay more for the priviledge in the short term. I've tried to get through to Npower to find out what my current balance is with them and discuss moving tariffs but I haven't been able to get through so have been promised a call back within 3 days (which makes me feel like leaving them just out of principle!). So what would you do in my position cos I'm pretty confused right now, I'd be annoyed at losing out on my direct debit discount that I feel I've quite rightfully earned by paying by direct debit for the last 12 months but the EDF March 2015 tariff is tempting as it's still fixed prices for 2 winters and pretty good prices as well really (in comparison anyway). Thoughts please ta

It took me half an hour to get through to EDF today which is a lot longer than my existing energy supplier SSE. If I had to wait three days for a company to ring me back I wouldn't even bother. I'm in a similar situation as I get a refund in December. I'm waiting for my rebate and then seeing what's on offer. You could take a chance on there being another offer on somewhere in February as it sounds like you want your Npower discount.0
