Ordered an apron on 15th October, and it arrived this morning.

Very happy for 82p delivered (from China)

I couldn't find this thread to say that mine arrived, until someone else posted today...

I wasn't so happy. It had been simply screwed up into a ball then shoved into the bag and being plastic it is covered in stress lines, a terrible mess that I can't do anything about.

No longer destined to be a stocking filler.

  • I ordered on the 14th, nothing yet, I got a few bits I spend about £8 hope they aren't scrumpled too.

I usually find that the Chinese are over zealous about parcelling everything up very carefully, with tons of extra cardboard and bubble wrap and envelopes covered in cellophane so you need scissors to get into them. This isn't the norm!

Their economy is so different to ours that an 80p-£1.20 apron is a good profit and they usually have more respect than this.

The apron would have been lovely otherwise, it was a really good spot Princess Coupon!

I got my three on Saturday, very happy with all of them. They had been folded neatly and individually wrapped inside the parcel so suitable for the stockings!

That's good to hear - pleased that they have treated other peoples orders with more respect :)

Also, there have been recent issues at HK, China and Singapore customs. They have been scanning every single package for Lithium batteries, and this created a massive hold-up in parcels from mid September. I am still waiting for something that I bought on 14/09/13 and tracking indicates that it is still sat there in China.

Aside from that, if you don't mind the wait... bargain!

Does anyone know if this mean that I shouldn't order anything that might contain a battery, e.g. mini keyring torches, kitchen timer, watches? I'd like to order some of these things but don't want to risk it if having batteries means my order will get held up or, worst still, go astray.

Batteries, with the focus on Lithium technology batteries, have been banned. A major site I bought from, www.efestbattery.com are not shipping out full stop. Others may try to get your order through (one that made it had the batteries wrapped in tin foil to avoid the scanners!). I am awaiting a Paypal refund for another parcel which has been stuck in China since 25/09.

The problem with Lithium batteries is that they are highly explosive. In the pressurised cargo hold of an aircraft, they are time bombs. There have been so many incidents of LiPo batteries going off in the holds that I think they are cracking down in the producer countries, namely the far east.
We already have a crack-down with Royal Mail.

I think you'd probably have no issues with normal batteries, especially the watch battery type, and if they are inserted into a product they're unlikely to be Lithiums unless maybe you've bought a Cree torch. Customs are looking for batteries the size of AA's and upwards. The Chinese sellers are well aware of the issues by now and will advise you if they cannot send.

Should be fine - the 'button' batteries you find in these items aren't the culprits. The sort of lithium battery they have in mind is the sort you find in normal-sized digital cameras - not quite as big as AA batteries, but the same sort of size. I've had lots of little 'light up' delivered in the last month with no real delays.

If it's destined for the bin, no harm in trying the nearly-boiling water tactic. Put the apron in a heatproof bowl and cover in water which is just below boiling point. Leave for 3 or 4 minutes and then carefully fish out. This sometimes gets rid of the creases in plastic by softening it enough to smooth out. Won't ever look perfect, but might make the stocking.:T

Good tip I'd never heard of before, thanks Middlestitch, I'll try it. There's no harm! I had considered hanging it and giving it a steam blast.

The Lithium ion battery issue has been aimed at the big brutes, 18650's and the like but yep they're going for everything Lipo. The little lithium batteries such as in rc toys/cameras etc just don't create quite the display a large Lipo can. Having said that, the HK customs have been letting gadgets through where the Lipo's have been part of the gadget itself, and they've told one company I deal with that. I guess it must be harder to see a lipo within a device than a stand alone battery.
