Faulty Bluray 4 months after 1 year warranty ends

Hi bought a bluray home cinema from amazon, 4 months after the 1 year warranty its stops reading disks and makes an awful noise.
Where do i stand?
They want to charge for a repair, surely these should last longer than 1 year and 4 months?

Yes, they probably should.
Have a read of MSE's Consumer Rights guide and you will see that you may have rights against whoever sold the goods to you.
Do you still have proof of purchase?
Who wants to charge for the repair, manufacturer or retailer?
After this length of time you may well have to prove that the fault wasn't caused by mis-use, but all that detail is in the above mentioned article.0
