When OH moved in he had terrible allergies to cats and had to constantly take antihistamines after a while he found that he was getting use to the fur and didn't need them any more.

We then got 2 new cats shortly after each other the long haired one set him right off the short he had no issues with after a while he got use to the long haired one and now she sleeps on his pillow when he's not there and he's fine.

It could be as others have said she is only sensitive to certain furs or maybe she is use to your animal fur and now just needs to build up a tolerance to his

  • I suspect the work colleague have taken antihistamines for a long time and is now tolerant to the dose so is not having much of an impact on her as they once did assuming she takes these and thus why she is having open air non contact reactions just like hayfever.

suggest she see her surgery nurse or GP and ask about alternative treatments such as a nasal spray instead of tablets or a injection.

it wouldn't harm her to have an over the counter from chemist nasal spray in emergency situations such as this one so she can get direct treatment to the sinus and relive the symptoms quicker than if she took a tablet. perhaps have one of the clothes sticky rollers and when you get into work quickly "roll over" to get more pet hair off you clothes perhaps two puddytat man could borrow it, then if she continues to have attacks then it maybe due to the aircon, I have asthma and aircon sets me off after prolonged exposure I get dry eyes my nose streams with snot my throat gets tickly and dry as soon as I get some fresh air for 30 mins im fine again, I get it in the car with aircon on aswell.

As I have already mentioned - she uses some form of an inhaller but forgot to take it with her yesterday. Today she says she has an asthma due to allergy to cat/dog/horse hair.

its never a good idea to not have an inhaler on hand. and perhaps some antihistamines?

the inhaler "blue salbutamol one" will be only good if she remedy's the "allergic reaction" first.

she may not have the standard reaction like some people do to animal dander or fur "hayfever" type reaction, but moderate anafalactic(sp) type reaction where by her airways swell throat swell, ontop the other normal reactions if this is the case (you can always ask) then she would need to seek her doctor and explain this and carry a epipen of adrenaline, im fortunate enough to have had this type of reaction that ended me up in intensive care, im allergic to dogs in season (i.e that time of the month pheromone secreted from that end of the dog) im fortunate enough not to be in contact with such thing because family and friends and my self have all had their dog "done", that was my first ever type of reaction to a dog, and touch wood will be my last but my doc cant prescribe the pen to me because I do not have enough reactions to warrant it, but this maybe a different type of scenario.

it may also help for her to have a salbutamol inhaler at work in her or your workstation drawer just incase she does forget it again.

I think you definitely get some hair on you regardless of how hard you try. I wear newly washed clothes every single day, kept away from the animals, and have to pick the hairs off the back of my fabric office chair.

I had a mild allergy to dog saliva, which has now been completely obliterated through hanging around our chap and using antihistemines at the start. Pink eye is a thing of the past :)

Oh of course I beleieve I do, but so do all other peole with pets and really it is not my responsibility to manage her health issues is it?

She is still sitting far away from me. Which is fine really.

She know I have pets as I talk about them from time to time but there is about 200 people on my floor alone and I am sure others have pets too...

Permanent staff have permanent desks, contractors sit where a desk is free.

I'm a bit perplexed why she seems to keep sitting next to you or near you despite the fact she knows you have pets and despite the fact she's obviously blaming you for her allergies? Surely if it was such a huge problem she would've sat elsewhere from the start, knowing full well she has allergies and knowing full well that you have pets. Did she expect you to somehow do something about it??

If I had a severe peanut allergy and was sat next to someone eating peanuts, I wouldn't stay there and demand for them to stop eating them, I'd move to somewhere else... especially if, as you say, people sit everywhere they like.

She is no longer sitting anywhere near my - this I stated several times on this thread.

It is a massive open plan office, about 200 people on my floor so yes, same office but far enough.

As you say, it could be anyone in there. And if she has been sat away from you today that kind of proves that point.

I wouldn't let it worry you any further unless she singles you out again. She may have suddenly contracted an allergy to something else...like the office cleaning materials /air freshener/perfume....anything in there to be honest.
Yep...still at it, working out how to retire early.:D....... Going to have to rethink that scenario as have been screwed over by the company. A work in progress.
