G24 Parking notice

Options
Hi,

I returned from holiday today to find a parking charge notice from G24.

The date of the alledged overstay was 21st September and the letter is dated the 30th September. However I went on holiday 6th October (15 days after parking in homebase car park) and had not received a letter so it therefore came while I was away during the 7th -13th October.

I have been reading these forums and see information stating that you have to receive the notification within 14 days. Obvioulsy the letter states the 30th but the postmark on the envelope is not clear and it did not arrive within 14 days.

Therefore would I have grounds to appeal based on the letter had not been received within 14 days?

Thanks

Well yes, but you always have grounds to appeal a PPC fake PCN anyway.

If you have a receipt from a shop if it was a retail car park then take a copy of it and send G24 an appeal as the registered keeper (not saying who was driving!). So you would say:

'The driver was a patron of the Homebase store and here is a copy of the receipt (keep the original). Also as the registered keeper I can tell you that you have failed to serve this Notice to Keeper to me within 14 days as it arrived last week (w/c 7th October). I have kept the envelope and have a witness to the fact this arrived too late for registered keeper liability. I will not be naming the driver and you have suffered no loss so you have no case. I expect this to be cancelled and if not I will complain to the Homebase Store Manager, and will expect a POPLA code from you so I can take the appeal further.'

...or words to that effect. You could also complain to the store manager sooner rather than later as they can cancel these if you are quick to complain.

If you were only browsing then say:

'The driver and passenger were browsing in Homebase with a view to making a large purchase (kitchen, bathroom, make it up!). However your fake PCN has made them re-think unless you cancel the ticket immediately. I will also complain to the Store Manager and tell him why he has lost the driver's business, and mine, and that of all our family in future. Clearly neither you nor Homebase has made any loss when customers are looking to make a purchase, so your ticket is unenforceable. If you disagree, send me a POPLA code by return.'
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

I followed the advice and contacted G24 stating that the letter was received later than the 14 days. I recieved a standard repsonse stating that they want copies of receipts even though I had told them the driver was browosing in the store with the view to make a large purchase and basically their reply seemed just like a standard reply.

I therefore replied and told them they had not addressed my letter so I attach it again. I have now received a repsonse from them stating that it is not their fault that the letter was received after 17 days and they issued it after 9 days and that I need to take this up with Royal mail (complete bull they didnt post it until after 14 days). They have also quoted lots of legal rubbish in their reply and that they don't have to provide me with breakdown of parking charges at this time (Hadn't even asked for one).

They finish their reply stating as my appeal is ongoing they are not providing me with details on how to appeal to POPLA and will all do this if my appeal is rejected.

So my question is do I now do nothing and await another repsonse from them ?

Contact the CEO of Home Retail Group who own Homebase. He was very happy to cancel my G24 invoice although I didn't allow him to as I wanted to cause G24 trouble :

You need to complain and report them to the BPA for not issuing a POPLA code but serially pretending that any appeal is 'ongoing' as an excuse to sidestep POPLA. Look:

    https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/4778336

and look at this forum thread, same lie again about an appeal being misleadlingly 'ongoing' because G24 declare it so; where I post as SchoolRunMum:

    http://forums.pepipoo.com/index.php?showtopic=84100

...follow her lead and complain to the retailer (follow up the previous complaint or escalate it to the CEO of Homebase). Look at the end of that thread, updated today. G24 didn't cancel it out of the goodness of their heart, they did so because she complained loudly enough.

You are in a strong position as well because you can report G24 to the BPA as well:

    steve.c@britishparking.co.uk

AND you are still in time to reply to G24 pointing out the error of their ways and that official complaints are in with Homebase Head Office and the BPA already and they should either cancel this or send you a flippin' POPLA code so you can crush their stupid charge as not a genuine pre-estimate of loss!

    :)

These timescales look very familiar, I have just received one of these from G24, 15 days after the alleged incident, yet the Issue date says 9 days, the same as yours! Looks like these issue dates may be some form of automated process

I'll be following your lead and using this as my opening gambit along with all the other good stuff I've read here.

Thanks for the replies only just seen them. To top the G24 scumbags I found out the other day I have been a vicitm on identity theft and some low life been running wild with my details so only now had a chance to get back on this G24 thing.

Just about to email BPA and homebase and also will let G24 now I have done this. Will let you know the outcome.
  • I'm in the same boat! G24 sent me notice 11 days after 'issue'. Thus not enough time to pay by cheque and incurring a £2.50 charge for paying by debit card. I was going to pay...but their dishonesty so annoyed me I changed my mind. This irks me more than the actual charge notice!!

Just to update the newbies here, complaining DOES WORK! Dibby5 has complained to the Head Office of Wickes and her fake PCN has been cancelled:

Get complaining, LJ22 and Fognut. And sending G24 a challenge like in Dibby5's example.
