Laptop on contents insurance

Had a leaking wall in the house recently and my laptop is now completely gubbed due to water damage. Problem is that I got it through the open university so I don't have a receipt, will this be a problem if I try to claim on contents insurance? Obviously I still have the laptop so I do have proof of the damage.

    Is it actually covered?

Many plans exclude accidental damage to portable electronic items.

Is it actually worth claiming with the potential increase with premiums.

I know my sister regretted claiming for one. Cost her more than buying a new one in the end.
