:j Lots of great ideas, lets keep them coming :j
We always have chapati flour in as it is so quick to whip up a batch of them and they make a change from rice with curried dishes.Taking responsibility one penny at a time!0 -
Hi, I make a sausage and bean casserole thingy with a couple of Mattessons sausages, a tin of tomatoes, baked beans, butter beans and tomato puree, garlic and a couple of onions. throw it all in a pot and simmer until thickened and lovely. If I have any chorizo knocking around I chop it up and lob it in too.0

Beanburgers are good - just blitz a tin of beans with some onion. You may need to bind with an egg but I don't usually bother. You can also add some chilli flakes or curry powder if you want them spicy.
Put in the fridge to firm up for an hour and then either bake in the oven, grill or fry. I usually oven bake and bung in some HM wedges or chips to have with them.

Tinned ham can be roasted and chopped up to use with pasta sauce , in a pie with a tin of creamed chicken or in a risotto.
Lovely drizzled with honey and roasted and it is only a £1 in the land of poundBlessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light

A tin of chicken in cream sauce (about £1.20) with a packet or two of microwaveable rice (75p each), combined, makes a superb 'risotto' which my kids love. You could add a tin of sweetcorn or peas for colour and some cheese if you had it. Needs salt and pepper IMHO. If the elec was off, you could heat this in a pan over a camping stove or over an open fire.
(my kids asked why the chicken was pink... I couldn't answer them. It was cooked?!)
Other than that, tinned curries, stewed beef tins etc is what I am going to focus on this year. In power cuts etc I CBA to cook pasta etc so I want easy food that requires little work!
Is there any such thing as decent tinned ham? And if so, what brand would you recommend? Thank you0 -
Instant mash with non-fridgeable cheese triangles stirred through it and either a tin of drained processed peas or a tin of baked beans stirred through that makes a warm and easy savoury supper.
Baked beans in an ovenproof dish topped with cheese triangles/slices a squish of ketchup and instant mash topping makes a quick and easy shepherds pie substitute.
A tin of stewing steak in gravy, a tin of carrots, a tin of peas and a tin of potatoes makes a nice stew especially if you add in a made up oxtail cuppasoup when heating it through, all things we used to have when we camped, Lyn xxx.0 -
There are quite a few ingredients listed that I had not thought to have in so thank you for the new inspiration
Couscous is a great thing to have in the house and adding some boiling water, herbs and veggies makes a great tea/lunch. Also tasty if you add some feta/haloumi.Taking responsibility one penny at a time!0 -
Garlic mushrooms and rice makes a decent risotto
I have made a meatloaf from a tin of mince, a packet of stuffing and some lentils which was tasty served with roasted tinned potatoes and a tin of peas plus ketchup
Chicken in sauce lasagne - can of chicken in sauce, small can of garlic mushrooms, ½ jar roasted peppers chopped, a can of tomatoes, lasagne sheets, 1 tsp oregano, basil or mixed herbs (I use mixed herbs) a packet of cheese sauce a pack of dried parmesan or dried hard cheese .
Mix the tomatoes, mushrooms, herbs and peppers with the chicken until combined and layer with the lasagne sheets in a shallow baking dish, with a sploosh of cheese sauce on each layer. Top with the remaining cheese sauce and a good shake of dried parmesan, bake in the oven until the lasagne sheets are cooked about 25 minutes.Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light
