Hello can you please help me connect the internet to my smart TV?
I presently tether to my laptop and then connect to my Sony smart tv hdmi to hdmi.
Is there a better way to connect to the tv without using the laptop?
I am not sure if I should use a dongle (sonys tv dongles on amazon have mixed reports concerning signal strength), set top box or other means of connecting. Please bear in mind I am connecthing wirelessly and not with a cable...thank you

Is there any reason you don't want to connect with an ethernet cable to router? As that would be the best most stable way. But yes it does mean trying to hide a cable trailing to however far away router is from tv0

Works on my laptop nicely.......cant see the point in paying fror internet twice!!0 -
if the tv is wireless, you could run your phone as a mobile hotspot then connect to the tv to that0

aaah ok...there is a way. I was actually looking into this myself a while ago. I'm on the Three One Plan with unlimited data and tethering, so was toying with the idea of going landline/broadband free too. But never really got around to it quite just yet, was waiting for Three to go 4G as that's when I'd be able to fully test if I could survive on just tethering...
I actually bought one of these TP-Link TL-WR702N and set it up in client mode as a wifi hot spot, it has an ethernet port so could use that as a "wired" connection to the tv.0 -
Does your TV have good apps for what you want to do (iPlayer, YouTube for example?) - if not you'll be wasting your money on a WiFi dongle. You can certainly tether this way to your phone if you're used to doing it with your laptop. Make sure you buy the right dongle. What's the TV model number?0
