CAncelling car insurance whilst making a claim

My car insurance expires on the 18th of june (monday), however i wrote my car off on thursday and now have no car to insure, so if i was to cancel next years insurance would it affect the claim that i am going through now as i am still waiting for them to pay out on my written off car?

I pay for my insurance monthly so i have to pay the full years if i start the policy and cancel it

My policy is with Directline

Cheers

I'm a bit confused here - surely you mean that you're not renewing your policy?

If that's the case then why would want to renew it, as you pointed out you don't have a car at the moment and the claim should be covered under your current policy. Regarding the pay monthly policies, all the ones I ever came across were credit agreements where the money gets paid to the insurance company and you're paying off a loan.

yeah i dont want renew it, but didnt know if because im in the process of making a claim there might be a problem with cancelling it and directline paying out with my claim

there shouldnt be as far as i can see as my claim is on my policy for 2006/7 which is all paid and up to date, but everyone knows what insuarance companys are like

you don't need to refer to it as cancelling it, it's upto you if you take insurance out next year and have to agree to their quote. I know what you mean about insurance companies but no if the accident was in your last insurance period and you don't renew it then it shouldnt affect your claim.

If you are going to want insurance, i.e. if you are replacing the car you may however find it cheaper to go with our current insurer as a new insurer wouldn't be fond of someone who had just had an accident, ur current insurer may be more leniant on you, especially if you have always paid it etc.
