Thought this sort of fitted into the OS board
Went to Morrisons yesterday and their phillips low energy bulbs are only 39p so I bought a couple:D
Only question is I bought the 100w for the living room but it took at least 5 mins before the room was bright enough to be able to read a book, is this normal?

Five minutes seems like a long time but yes, they do take a little while to get up to full brightness.
If you've still got the packaging it might tell you on there how long they should take.
I've got two different types here and one of them definitely takes noticeably longer than the other to get going well.
Five minutes though? ... you do know that time is relative don't you?
How long a minute is depends on which side of the bathroom door you're on!Hi, I'm a Board Guide on the Old Style and the Consumer Rights boards which means I'm a volunteer to help the boards run smoothly and can move and merge posts there. Yes energy-saving bulbs do take time to warm up, that's why they are best suited to areas where they are on for longer periods of time rather than switched on and off constantly. There is variation between brands I think. Philips seemed longer than Osram but I haven't tried the Ikea ones yet.If you think reality makes sense, you're just not paying attention!0
