vet stress

My poor16 yr old cat has hurt her paw, she is holding it up not putting weight on it.
She is getting around and doesn't appear to be in pain, she has let me look at it without much fussing and there are no visible cuts.
It was swollen yesterday but the swelling seems to have gone down.
Now I know I should take her to the vets but it caused her so much stress last time, she didn't eat for 2 days and growled if we went near her. At the actual vets she was shaking and clawing frantically was awful to see.
How long would you give her before taking her?
She has done it in the house, I suspect from getting down from dd bunkbed.

I don't get nearly enough credit for not being a violent psychopath.

Could you call the vet and speak to them? Maybe if you explain the symptoms (and that it seems to be improving) they could decide if it warrants the stress of taking her in.0

I have this problem with my cat and vets/car.
If it was me I wouldn't like the idea that it had been/is swollen and would take her to the vets.
Try Feliway too, worked like a miracle drug on mine, but doesn't with all.Yep...still at it, working out how to retire early.:D....... Going to have to rethink that scenario as have been screwed over by the company. A work in progress.0 -
The fact that she's not putting weight on it would concern me. If it was a slight limp I would be inclined to see how it went.
Most vets will make home visits. May sound odd but what sort of carrier do you have?
Piggy cat (also a geriatric) hates going to the vets but we discovered that instead of removing her from the carrier, we take the top half of it off and Piggy is examined and treated whilst still sat in the bottom half of the carrier - this apparently is far less stressful for her and while she still doesn't like being at the vets, no one is subjected to the copious blood letting that Piggy used to inflict.
this is the type of carrier we use0
