Saving a pigeon = Foot through flat roof

Hi I was wondering whether anybody can help me. This morning we were awoken by what we thought was a dying pigeon on our roof. I got up to investigate saw it sitting there and decided to intervene. The best way onto our roof is through the bedroom window so.... one small step for the pigeons.... one slip and a giant step through my roof. Luckily I didn't go straight through the internal plaster but the roof is now leaking as a result. I was wondering where I stand here regarding my house insurance does anybody have any previous experience? Its worth pointing out this was a flat roof - which I understand complicates matters. Also the roof is 7 m x 3 m any ideas regarding cost?
Oh, and upon my dramatic entrance said pigeon just flew away - Grrrrr.

Do you have accidental damage cover?0

Accidental damage cover, But do check the smallprint about the roof and its state of repair.
Has it been weakened in anyway prior to the incident? Or was it just because you fell heavily onto it?

Hi Fehzat,
I think you might struggle a bit here. If your foot has gone through the roof this would imply that there was already an issue. Flat roofs are prone to developing leaks and, if this goes unnoticed (which it often does) the timber decking underneath it eventually deteriorates and weakens.
You may get lucky, but expect a few questions and probably a visit from a claims inspector which would be perfectly normal in a situation like this.0 -
Pigeons are classed as Vermin as they spread disease - why on earth were you tryig to rescue something that breeds so successfully? You should have left well alone and now you may have to repair the flat roof out of your own pocket. Never heard anything quite so daft.0

It does sound like the roof needs some maintenance.
We had a similar problem about a year ago. It cost about £1000 to get it replaced - but it was wear and tear, not an insurance claim.
At least it means you do not need to declare it on future insurance proposals.0 -
Definitely something wrong, if it's a flat roof to an extension, you should be able to dance a jig/ hold a party up there without causing damage0

Maybe I built it? Paper mache and PVA glue, Wonderful stuff. even waterproof to some degree.
I have the knack of getting a wrinkle free finish now.
