Do they all get enough exercise, minimum an hour a day out of their cage or hutch best divided into two sessions so they can run around to their hearts delight. That should take care of any weight problem and they can get back to their muesli, some people forget about exercise, just take them out of their cages and sit them on their lap.

One of mine used to have the run of the downstairs pretty much 70% of the time, she was one feisty dude, full of muscle, ate enough to put a saddlback pig into a diabetic coma, and was seriously confident. She was amazing, she and my Norwich terrier (a terrier!) used to fly round the house after eachother and she was always in charge, if he did anything she didn't like she would run underneath him and nip him, then 20 mins later he would be washing her and she used to pull the hairs out of his ears (which was quite handy as he didn't like me doing it). They had an amazing relationship. When I got asbo cat she would try to chase pig when a kitten, my dog would guard pig and trained asbo to leave her alone.

Well just back from the vets. She was very good, gave him a proper body examination. She didn't look at his teeth tho - but he is eating well - hay, veggies and a few nuggets so thought it best not to stress him. His skin is clear, no irritation.

He weighed 920 back in June, (made a mistake in my first post) he now weighs 840g and has done for the last month or so.

So his weight is stable (if low) he is eating, he has had the trauma of losing his mate. He is bright and inquisitive.

She thinks it is a stress reaction and now a habit developed because of the death of my lovely girl. He may have a kidney problem (water drinking) but they are largely untreatable(?)

I have been given the details of a exotics vet to try next.

I will make an appointment at the new place just to put my mind at rest.

I put him back in the cage with a hay cube thing and he started eating straight away.

    thanks xxxx
    Nevertheless she persisted.

Well it's good his weight isn't getting less. Maybe he's picking up. I've had pigs near to death (rescued ones) and with loads of TLC have pulled back and ended up some of the strongest ones i've had.

    Hope things go well.
