Huge Yodel problem - do I report to police?

Last week I sent 34 parcels by Yodel 24 for next day delivery, for a social enterprise, as part of a fundraising initiative. The following day only 3 had arrived. I sent them via Parcel2Go who told me the service isn't guaranteed & just to wait. By Saturday, 9 parcels had arrived. 8 had been slashed open & resealed with Yodel tape and some parcel contents were missing.

One had the main item for a prize raffle missing and half a handheld hoover inserted (I kid you not), presumably to bulk out the packaging. Parcel2Go have offered minimum compensation but I think I need to call the police. The other parcels still haven't arrived. Compensation is £20/parcel so laughable.

Just wanted to check that the police will take this seriously. All parcels went to my nearest depot (and I know which one that is) which is where the issue must have arisen - and obviously someone was aware of it as they sealed the parcels with Yodel tape!

Parcels go missing and get damaged every day, so the police would just laugh at you.

    http://www.parcel2go.com/service/yodel-24.aspx
Parcel delivery within 1-2 working days throughout most of UK's mainland.
Collection and delivery are not guaranteed but currently enjoy a 96% success rate.
    Collections are between 7am – 7pm.
Free £20.00 compensation cover (Additional cover up to £2,500.00 is available)

but in the overview it states
Prices for the Yodel 24 delivery service remain the same with parcels starting from £8.99 + VAT with free £50 compensation cover included with each order. Of course if your parcel’s contents are more valuable than this then additional coverage up to £2500 is available for added peace of mind.

but if they were over the £20 did you not take extra insurance.

I'd go to the owner of yodel, looks like there's someone very dodgy in their delivery chain. Then use a more reputable courier.

I have personally been impressed with DPD - no idea how they compare for price, but the service where they text the recipient with a 1 hour delivery window and the option to text back door redelivery etc is clearly the future. Just hope Royal Mail take a leaf from their book and introduce that service now I own 227 shares!

I use Parcel2Go via various carriers.

Just wondering, as you sent to a large number of addresses on what sounds like a "one-off" type of thing, were they sent to private addresses?

The reason I ask is that a while back I was provided with a list of addresses of fundraisers by a very big charity and all of the recipients had supposedly been notified of their pending delivery.

A good proportion of those parcels "never turned up" and I had a very unhappy customer. I went straight to the Yodel depot to raise merry hell with them but the results were quite interesting.

It turned out that not all the addresses' supplied were accurate, at least one recipient had refused to accept the parcel because they were not expecting it (even though they had been pre-warned) and another who insisted it had not been received backed down when supplied with a copy of their delivery signature!

The courier had actually done really well in this case. On the other hand, Yodel are not my favourite carrier but, following Parcel2Go rate changes recently, they are the cheapest for a next day service and while Parcel2Go can provide access to a range of carriers at bulk rates they are hard to deal with when problems occur.

The other thing I notice with Yodel is that their tracking system does not update throughout the day like, for example, TNT, UPS, etc. so it would be worth checking again today to see if more deliveries have been entered over the weekend.

The compensation amount is debateable. Parcel2Go service details do state £50 but when you actually go through the booking procedure you see it is actually £20 and, in reality, you are stating that you are declaring the actual value of the goods. I suspect that if the real value is higher than the declared amount then you may not be entitled to anything.

I think my first action would be to check today to see if any more parcels are tracked as delivered and then make a personal visit to your nearest Yodel depot, if they are within reach, and show your concern by speaking to their office staff face to face.

Sadly, I would not expect the Police to be interested unless you can provide evidence of something sinister happening.

its a bit trickier to plan on an RM delivery vs a van drop

I'd make a sarcastic comment about Yodel, but you probably wouldn't get it.

However, I have recently strarted seeing Yodel vans. I reckon it must be the Christmas rush - last Christmas.
If you fold it in half, will an Audi A4 fit in a Citroen C5? :)

So you entered into a contract with parcel2go to deliver some parcels for you.

Some arrived on time, some were late, some were late and damaged, and some have not yet been delivered.

Why do you think you need to involve the police? Have you contacted Parcel2Go to complain? What did they say?

So 32 parcels have now been delivered, 30 have been slashed open & some contents removed and in one case all removed & half a handheld hoover added in. Which is why I thought it should be reported to the police as contents have been stolen fro each parcel. P2G & Yodel are 'looking into it'.

Surely that's enough for the police to take an interest. Send 2 or 3 more and put some ''set'' mice traps in - listen for the scream from your car.:rotfl:
