Building a Rocket Stove for garden waste, cooking in power cuts!
I am going to buy some bricks to make a Rocket Stove but can't afford much.
Does anyone know if the basic builders bricks from Wickes would be ok?

It seems that the bricks don't get too hot as most of the heat goes straight up the chimney.
We only have gas for the central heating, electric cooker, so we will be limited to using a small camping stove if there are any power cuts.
I thought a rocket stove would be a good idea as we have lots of pine cones in the area which are supposed to be a good source of fuel for these.

A long as you done use concrete.
If you can line it that would be better. But the main issue would be thermal shock i think. Heat is slowly to burn off any moisture and allow the bricks to warm slowly.
Then let it cool down slowly also.
I built a furnace from a calor gas bottle and some fire cement and perlite. Works a treat. Maybe make one from an old gas bottle?Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
You can make a decent rocket stove from an old catering drum - the large ones for cooking oil work fine. Use old ash as a filler or vermiculite.
It is the chimmney structure where money is worth spending. - see if you can get some stainless steel scrap and find a welder to do the job.If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0
