Hi
I have a Nexus tablet and I would like to be able to access the internet while out through my mobile phone. I've got a Samsung S4.
I think its called tethering but I don't know how. Grateful for advice.
Many thanks

The feature you're looking for within Android is called portable hotspot - this allows other wireless devices to connect through your S4 and its mobile data connection.
To set it up, you open your main settings, choose more in the wireless and networks section then tethering and portable hotspot, press portable hotspot and then choose the configure option at the bottom. Enter a new name for the SSID which can be anything you want, this is the name you'll see when you connect from a wireless device so it's a good idea to make sure it's something unique and recognisable. Enter a new password which is what you'll need to enter on a wifi device to connect so again something unique to ensure other people can't connect to your phone then hit save (you only need to do this once).
Now you just need to turn the feature on which you can do from settings->more->tethering and portable hotspot then pressing the slider at the right hand side of portable hotspot. When it is active, you should get an icon at the top and when you scan from your Nexus tablet you should see the custom SSID you chose in the options. When you select it, you then enter the password you chose and the Nexus should now be online using the S4's mobile data connection.
When you're finished you can pull down the notification bar at the top and tap the portable hotspot entry to take you straight to the settings screen and turn it off.

Thank you John.
I'm getting there. I managed to get the nexus to show it was connected via the android hotspot and although the connection shows as excellent, it won't load up my internet pages.
I'm obviously doing something wrong. I will print off your instructions and give it another go. Thanks again :-)0 -
Confirm that the s4 can access the internet OK and that your mobile provider allows tethering in your account. Many don't, or don't on all tariffs.
Also check the password was entered correctly on the tablet to access the hotspot, it can sometimes be a faff to initially get set up but is simplicity itself once it is up and running.0 -
Once set up you can download a widget to put on your main screen to just turn the hotspot on or off with one click. This is the one I use (get it from the Google Play Store, it's free)

No-one mentioning tariffs?
Do you know how much data per month is included, and how to stay within that?
Does your network even allow tethering on your tariff?0 -
