Electric v Gas Heating
Hi
I am brand new to these forums but I am trying to find out if taking the chill off the lounge with a 800w halogen heater is a better alternative to heating most of the rooms in an average 3 bedroom house, we have turned off radiators in spare room landing etc to be as cost efficient as we can but is it a false economy to use the halogen option for an hour or so each evening.

Welcome to the forum.
Heating with gas costs about one-third of the cost of heating with electricity.
That said, if using an 800w electrical heater for an hour each evening provides sufficient heat for your needs, I wouldn't bother to use Gas CH. The saving using gas is so marginal - a few pence - to not bother turning it on.
I have a small electrical heater in my study. If I am up after the gas CH has gone off on the timer, I use that heater for as long as it takes to reach the required temperature.0 -
Would only really be cheaper if you live alone and just heat each room as you use it, I do this on timers - office during the day, then lounge in evening then bedroom before bed.
Once you factor in the boiler costs can save a bit doing it this way.0
