Also, if your son is awarded DLA at the middle/high rate of care then you should apply for Carer's Allowance. You will not be awarded any actual money because you are earning over a £100 a week but you will have what is called an underlying entitlement.
This underlying entitlement to Carer's allowance will mean that you will get a premium added to your HB claim and your HB should go up. (obviously you would have to tell the council that you have an underlying entitlement)
So not all bad news.
In the meantime take the extra money from your son and get yourself 'sorted'.0 -

the bus stop and relys on lifts or taxis hopefully his claim will come through soon then he can afford it and not have to claim esa
Just seen this.
DLA is not means tested so he can claim DLA and ESA0 -

I think Molly meant his claim for compensation.
Molly - hope things get better for you and your son, you must take care of yourself and get your medication. If you don't you'll be poorly yourself."You've been reading SOS when it's just your clock reading 5:05 "0 -
OP, I know your son has had a rough time but he really is taking advantage of you, you need to toughen up on him. £70 a week to himself is quite a lot if it means you are going short, I know full time working men who only have £100 per month to themselves after they have paid their bills.Be Alert..........Britain needs lerts.0

Poppie68 "Yes but he is not your partner he is your adult child. Partners co own/rent are responsible for joint debts and bills etc. On the same basis you want him to be taken into account for tax credit purposes they will take you into account and he would lose his ESA. "mollyxxxxx wrote: »aww thanks poppie68 for telling me that I thought you had to have quite a lot of savings for it to affect your income based esa allowance maybe he should get a place of his own
I wonder if there is a bit of confusion here. I think what poppie68 was saying is that if he was a partner any income based ESA would stop because of your income. As he is your son, your income is not taken into account for income based ESA.0 -
He will need to claim PIP rather than DLA.These are my own views and you should seek advice from your local Benefits Department or CAB.0

Thankyou Sleepless Saver....i most probably have confused the OP with that.
What i actually mean ...You would like them to treat your son as they would a partner and be allowed to claim jointly so you would be entitled to tax credits. If they took him into account for your TC claim then they would apply the same for is ESA and take your income into account and therefore his payments would most probably stop. So you are no better off anyway.0 -

out of that, they have to pay thir bills and food.
it sounds harsh, but your son is no different to any of those people.
it may be worth looking into whether your local auhority may be willing to issue your sone with a bus oass to help with travel costs.
if he is on income based ESA, he is alredy able to claim bacvk his transport costs from the hosp-ital for appointments he has to attend0
