Nose test works for me I use anything from the freezer if it looks even slightly edible but then I was brought up with war-time rationing and a cast iron tum :):)and I'm just too frugal to throw good food away
  • Just remember, none of your frozen food has the ability to know when a month is up! They don't self destruct on the one month anniversary of when you put them in the freezer, like previous poster said, you might get bit of deterioration but I've eaten stuff months and months after the one month deadline, never noticed a problem. Got a pal who throws out all food that's past the one month deadline, drives me nuts! Tried to get her to give it to me but she won't, she just bins it.
  • Golly, I'm certain I've eaten things from the freezer before the dino's got extinct lol!

  • The cynic in me says that the one month guidance on the labels is a ploy to get us to throw stuff away and buy more!

Have eaten stuff well past a year... as long as it looks good and smells good, it is certainly good enough for me.

Too True Jackie, another wartime baby here and we wouldn't have dared waste food in my Nans house, she used to say "If it dosent go through you in 24hrs you`re a dead un" :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

I'm not quite a war baby (32) and I'm just too tight for best befores! Thaw it out, give it a sniff, and if it doesn't stink the place out, go for it! I eat things that are years old from the freezer. Ditto tins.
  • Well I hope so cos I've just had sausages dated July!! As long as it hasn't been defrosted then refrozen then it should be fine :)

  • We had a lovely leg of lamb for dinner on sunday. I am happy to report we are Still Here lol. The lamb was dated 28/12/2012, and it was lush.:T
