Cavity Wall Insulation, recommend a provider?

Hi
We may need to get our cavity walls insulated. I had originally thought they were filled with mineral wool, as there appeared to be some sticking out of the top of the cavity in the loft. However when doing some work on the outer wall of our house I managed to see into a part of the cavity and it was totally empty as far as I could see and get my hand in. The other warning signs are that this house gets red hot in summer, but cold very quickly when the weather turns, unlike our old house (which defininately did have insulation). So a survey is needed I think. House was newly built in '97.
We don't qualify for free insulation. So can anyone recommend a company in the north east? Specifically North Yorkshire, but anyone decent company who'll cover the area will do.

If it was built in '97, it should have met the regs in place then, which where quite high by olden day standards.
Whilst it is possible to meet the regs that would have been in place then without cavity wall ins, it would be odd not to go that route.
So, given that it should not be running hot and cold if the work had been carried out to spec. You need to check a little further, getting someone round with an endoscope will determine what has happened. I'm guessing they just missed few areas and you managed to drop on 1, but it may have none at all I suppose.
Remember that retro fitted cwi is never as safe or effective as the batts that are normally fitted as it's built
;)
I wouldn't risk a recommendation to you, I went with a local company that had been around for 20 years or more. They gave a 25 year warranty. They went bust 3 years after they did mine :mad::mad:I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0 -
Yes I was certain it would have been done at the time. But now I'm not so sure. A friend on the same street recently had a bad house fire, and it was found that there was no cavity insulation there at all. The house was built at the same time as ours, although it is a terraced house so perhaps has been done differently. Ours is detached. Only way to know for sure I suppose is to have a survey done, preferably a free one

They should all do it free as they cannot quote without knowing what they are up against, avoid anyone who doesn't survey free or at all.I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
