Any good for online backup?

I've been thinking about getting a new hard drive but while browsing for ideas I kept thinking about using an online backup.
Cut a long story short I came across this file hosting site which claims to keep files forever.
I don't believe anything's forever but it seems like a good way to backup some of my stuff. If it stops I'd be no worse off than if one of my hard drives broke.
Before I start problems with the idea?

I recommend https://spideroak.com
They are an encrypted backup service.
Their free account is 2Gb of storage.
You can upgrade for $100 (£62.60) per year to get 100gb of storage.
And unlike other "free" storage service "NO ONE" can see your data (Not even spideroak) it's encrypted on your machine before being sent to Spideroak's servers.
*note*
I've a referal code for spideroak that gives you and me an extra 1Gb of storage if you decide to take that route.Laters

Main thing that attracted me to the site was that it's free. If I'm going to pay for storage then I'd sooner stick to old fashioned external hard drives.
As for privacy anything I uploaded I'd encrypt first anyway.0 -
My issue with the OP's link is that the site gives no indication of who is hosting it, where your data is being stored or what they could do with it, and no apparent links from the web page to find that information.
Another suggestion for you - http://www.copy.com
It's a relatively new online backup service run by Barracuda Networks who at least have a recognised business of some standing in network security and backup solutions.
At the moment they are signing up individual users for free 15GB of storage, but you can get 20GB by using a referral link from an existing user (such as me
) and can get yourself extra space 5GB at a time for each new user you subsequently refer via your own account. 0 -

I'm no expert as researching these but who is lists an organisation named QQTek in Japan. Looks like something to do with game development. Don't know if it all has any connection.0 -
