Google Nexus

Hi all,

I have just bought a google nexus (2012 model) for my kids for Christmas and am trying to get it all set up and put apps etc on it. When I tried to buy a book last night it asked for my card details and then declined me. Is it because the tablet is registered in the childs name and the bank card is in my name? Would I be better to buy google play credit? I am thinking this might be safer too as then there is no way of bills being run up by accident! How do I go about doing this?

Also if anyone can recommend good cases or good good apps for children (preferably things that are educational).

Thanks

Not sure if that's the issue but could well be (whose Gmail account is on there?).

But anyway, I would definitely recommend Google Play gift cards as it will protect you from potential big bills, and protect other people from having to read about you getting a big bill in the Daily Mail.

As for apps, check the top educational section in the Play Store on the device, or here - https://play.google.com/store/apps/category/EDUCATION/collection/topselling_free

Thanks, that's brilliant will get some of those apps. Thanks for your help.

I set them up with a gmail account in the kids name. Guessing that must be the problem.

Silly question but I take it I just buy a giftcard from one of the retailers then use the code to pay for apps until the balance runs out? Can I keep topping up the same card or can I use 2 cards if I have a balance left on one card that's not enough to pay for an app? thanks

As they're essentially gift cards it's a case of you buy a card, go onto Google Play and input the number from the card and it transfers the amount of the card to Google Play, and you/your kids use that to purchase stuff. When it's getting low (or any time you fancy) you just get another card, do the same, and the balance is topped up. So you aren't using the balance on the card when you make purchases, you use the card in a lump sum to top up Play.

If I was bought a Nexus, or anything else of that nature I would have been !!!!ed off if a parent had been messing with it beforehand.

I can chuse me own apps innit?

To be fair it depends on the age of the kids - younger ones will want to be able to grab it and start using it instantly, they won't understand that you have to get it set up, download apps and all the rest of it before they can get their sticky fingers on it.

Thinks yes its for younger kids so they will definitely want to start playing with it straight away!
