okay - understand it now.....if it doesnt have the anti roll bar link done it will fail its mot next year....this is why it was advised to do it.....it scraped through this years mot with the state of it but it will fail next year............hence the reason for having it done.....

They do my MOT by the way...

(the car is getting old, it has quite a few problems it has been limping along with.....i do not think my garage are ripping me off to be honest and they have literally been trying to help me)..

Apparently CV joints should be replaced as a pair......they have never been replaced before and has done 80,000 so thought it best to do both at once.....i spoke to someone today who had one of her front joints replaced and then a few months later she had to have the other one done as well....
  • £60 per hour labour, is really expensive if its a local independent garage. regarding those cv joints did they tell you what make they are because if they are the cheap ones next year you might have the same problems due to them being cheap.

with regards to the anti roll bar link, showing signs of wear is pretty vague, are they splitting? if so replace because everything on your car is showing signs of wear doesn't mean you need to replace it all.
  • 60 for an independent isnt that cheap i do agree. However, they never usually spend 2.5 hours fixing my car (which i think is reasonable as they spent nearly 1.5 hrs thoroughly going over it, discussing, etc and then fitted two outter cv joints and an inner gaiter).

They are reputable and i have never heard anybody locally say anything derogetory about them.....i have been in teh waiting room a couple of times over the years where they have come out with a part to show a customer that the last garage didnt actually do what they had been paid to do when the customers problem hadnt been solved)......for the sake of 10 or 20 quid i would rather take it somewhere reputable....

As for the parts they used....I have absolutely no idea but if the problem starts up again I will take it back to them obviously and wouldnt expect to pay as these cv joints should last the remaining life of the car......

As for the anti roll bar link.......it will fail its mot if i dont get it sorted and that is why they have impressed on me the need to get it done...in fact, it is the only thing they have actually told me that I must get done and as its only going to cost £48 I doubt they have impressed the importance of it for their gain......

We cannot go through life not trusting anybody at all......my little car is in need of some tlc to get it back to a decent standard to keep me on the road for another two years......this costs money and so i shall only get done the things that will cause it problems if they arent done......
  • ps - they once fitted a new battery for nothing.....
  • Did you buy the battery from them?
  • think I had better exit this thread before i become seriously paranoid
  • You're not paranoid, possibly a little naive, but not paranoid. ;)
