Made to Measure Blinds - Am I being conned

My wife organised for some made to measure blinds.

They are in the process of being fitted but I have a few concerns.

They are made of horizontal wooden slats however to my eye there seem to be far too many which cause bunching at the bottom. It seems that there are 2 extra slats just sitting at the base of the blinds which means that the blinds don't hang right.

Can anyone offer any advice. The chap is coming back to fit the rest later and I wondered if anyone can point to what I should be expect?

  • They will be hung from the top so when you lower the blinds you only lower them so that reach to just above the base and they will then hang right .

The 2 extra slats are there to be used as spares. My sons dog chewed his wooden blinds and we used the 2 spare ones to replace the chewed ones.

If the extra slats are there when the blinds are fully down, it sounds like they haven't shortened them enough. It can be done quite easily but if you have paid for made to measure then you want them to fit! You can still use them as spares if required. We have loads of spares as we have them to quite a few windows and adjusted shop bought ones ourselves.
  • Thanks all for your replies. I was worried that the chap had measured up wrong.

In case anyone finds this thread in the future the instructions on how to shorten them are explained well on youtube.

  • Having sold blinds many years ago, I wouldn't be too worried about extra slats on the bottom, as others have rightly said they make handy spares. In 5 years time you'll be very grateful and possibly wondering why they didn't give you a few more!
