Unnerving bathroom quote..

We have a 5*4ft shower room, so a compact space lets say with a corner shower enclosure, basin and toilet.

We want to rip it out and fit new kit and we've had a quote for the following work:

- remove existing suite
- remove tiles (floor and walls)
- fit new suite
- tile floor and all walls

Had 2 quotes, the cheapest is £4k.

That includes labour and building materials only. We'll be providing suite and tiles.

We're in SW London.

Is this reasonable??

A little high possibly but not stratospheric.

Working in a confined environment like this is actually harder, so the small size of the space doesn't help much, only that there are less tiles.

I had a bathroom put in a room about 2m x2.5m. Probably ended up around £4k, I provided tiles but they did the rest.

But I'm not in London which could allow for the extra

Agree on the confinement aspect. Am i wrong to break it down by day rate?

No idea how long it'll take but I guess less than 10 days. So even if its 10 days work thats in the region of £400 pr day.

Third quote for comparison. Ask each how many days.

Even for London this must surely be extracting the urine!! Bearing mind the usual 'Need to see it',here in darkest W.Yorks I would be rubbing my hands at £1500 all trades ,the lot,no vat! I once thought about being London Plumbing and Heating in W.Yorks! No use to you so a suggestion.Make sure you get a top tiler, tiling makes a bathroom/wetroom.Try Tilers Forum.Ditto Plumbers Forum. You can advertise jobs for a local tradesman.Days wise, sounds like 2 days tiling,3/4 days plumbing ,ripping out.

Theres two ways of looking at this:

    1. No its totally unreasonable and you need to get more quotes or;

    2. Nothing wrong with that at all and I need to put my prices up.

    :D

    Cheers

Had a quote last week for the same work : £4900 + VAT!!! We are in Surrey. Needless to say we are not going ahead with this one.
Trying to get new quotes now but shocked at the price given!!!

    Good luck with your project.
