Tesco 28 Day Rule!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Options
I purchased an Icecrypt Digital Recorder from Tesco 10 weeks ago.
I rang the Tesco Technical Helpline within the first week with sound problems and 2 weeks later as the Recorder would freeze on Channel One.This has happened several times but I have switched on and off until the fault cleared.
I told the Tesco Technician I was lucky it had a years Guarantee as if the freezing continued, I would take it back to the shop.
Today it would not clear and I rang for advice.Tesco informed me that there was nothing they could do and I would have to speak to the Manufacturer.
When I said my Contract was with Tesco they said they only take back Electrical Goods within 28 days!!!!!
I told them they are wrong and I will Contact Consumer Direct and Tesco Head Office on Monday.:(,

As you say, they are wrong. It is their responsibility to sort this out. In fact, by trying to evade their responsibilities they are committing an offence under the Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations 2008.

You may, however, get better service from going direct to a manufacturer, but in doing so you end up waiving some of your legal protection (eg if the manufacturer supplies a replacement unit, you have no further legal rights against the retailer). As such I'd always push things with the retailer myself - that is what the law is designed to cover.

Tesco are good at evading their responsibilities.

2 weeks ago i went onto their tesco direct website and ordered a keyboard, great also free delivery, this arrived , but no leaflet etc. and their was some strange keys on it, so went onto the manufacturers website to look up what these keys functions were, but no sign of the KB listed, so emailed the manufacturer only to be told that it wont be listed as it was a specific licenced OEM keyboard only to be sold with a full PC package. contacted Tesco with this information and they told me it was sold by one of their sellers, so i would need to contact them about this. i then told Tesco that i purchased from Tesco and the payment was made to tesco and thats what it shows on my CC statement. After 4 days on arguing with Tesco that everything pointed to them as the sellers then agreed to send me a returns label to return for refund.

The fact its only to be sold with a PC is between the manufacturer and the seller - quite simply you got what you paid for, no mention of any faults and a major overreaction on your part

It was the manufacturer who told me i could not use it as a standalone as it was specifically designed to be part of a PC package. they were going to look into this with their buyer. i just went onto the manufacturers site to locate info on the strange buttons on the keyboard, then tesco try and palm me off to a so called other seller, when everything i had pointed to Tesco being the seller. Also when i purchased this their was no mention of it being an OEM keyboard.
  • You get what you pay for in Tesco.......................(but I must say their mobile phone service 'aint bad - but that is only re-badged O2)

Looks to me that the keyboard was purchased from a "Tesco Trusted Seller", the same as Amazon Marketplace, PlayTrade or Ebay, Tesco Direct merely being a selling platform for others.

but this was never made clear and it was never mentioned that it was as OEM keyboard.
