Old style ways for first house

Hi all, me and OH are moving into our first house in a couple of months so I'm trying to be really organised. At the moment we live with his mum and she does all the food shopping, cooking etc so we don't really have a lot of say in this. When we move I want us to eat healthier and cost effectively (ATM we live on ready meals, pasta and other pre prepared stuff) but don't really no where to start. I love cooking and baking and am relatively good at it but don't no where to start for ideas on meals that are healthy, low price and tasty.

I think first you need to set up your 'store cupboard'. Things like herbs and spices, flour, sugar, pasta, rice etc.£2 Savers club £0/£150

See if someone can buy you a slow cooker as a moving in present. You can do so much in them. They make cheaper cuts of meat taste great and if you are both working you can prepare in the morning (or night before) then switch it on before you go to work.0

Hi, exciting times, I remember it well.
Do you have a 'bottom drawer' if you wantold style it does not get more old style than this.
Sheets, pillowcases, towels, saucepans, kettle, plates, cups you get the idea.:D
I loved collecting for mineI still have the colender.

We've been given one as an engagement present and it came with a recipe book so looking forward to using it for stews etc. not sure about leaving it on all day while were out though, surely that's a fire risk? XxDebt free finally :j

I've started a list as I want to start making things from scratch but it seems endless as to what we'll need. Have been trying to work out what meals we like and plan around that but I'm worried it means we'll end up eating the same things all the time. XxDebt free finally :j

We don't have a bottom drawer ... It's taken over our bedroom and the spare room at the moment, I only need an outdoor and indoor broom and a vaccuum cleaner now and we've got all the basics I think :-) really enjoyed buying all the stuff so far, can't wait to get it all unpacked and in our new home xxxDebt free finally :j

Excellent
There isn't a fire risk with leaving a slow cooker on all day. Its what they are designed for. They don't keep on getting hotter as you might imagine. They are temperature regulated and do as they are meant to do. No worries what so ever there.

Ooh that's gonna be very useful then as we work funny shifts sometimes :-) although apart from stew, curry n chilli I don't have a clue what else we could do in it. Just looked at the recipe book and it's very stew and curry orientated. XxxDebt free finally :j

I find freezer space one of the most essential things. When we bought this house we didn't bring our chest freezer from the rented house, we just hd the upright fridge freezer. Well, we ordered a new chest freezer within a few weeks as we were fed up of how frequently we were having to go to the shop, how little we could store, having to turn down reduced foods or multipacks due to lack of space, not being able to batchcook and freeze extras, etc!0

We eat the same things over and over, especially when I batch cook lol.£2 Savers club £0/£150
