I have heard that in order to take full advantage of Core2Duo it should be running Windows Vista. Is this true?
I have recently purchased a Core2Duo machine with Windows XP instead of Vista as I have heard that Vista will not run some devices.
Have I made the right decision? Will I get full use of the Core2Duo with XP?

Core2Duo with XP works fine
Core2Duo with XP 64 works fine
Core2Duo with Vsita 32 works fine too
Core2Duo with Vista 64 works fine too
you will take full advantage when you make it work eg video editing ,games ,two programs at once ect most of the time it will sit there and work like any cpu. 64 bit OS are a little faster that 32 bit put you need 64 bit programs to really see it ,
so the answer to your question is you do not nead vista to take full advantage of Core2Duothere or their, one day i might us the right one ,until then tuff0 -
Perhaps the question should be - Do I need Core 2 Duo to run Windows Vista?0

This thread reminded me of when my Dad took delivery of a state of the art Core 2 duo system recently. He proudly listed the impressive specifications to me over the phone ... very high spec. He wanted to know where he could download some software I had told him about. As I gave him instructions on navigating to the download I could hear his painfully slow one finger typing in the background ... somehow I don't think he will be taxing the system to the max
.
You don't need Vista to get the most out of your system but if you want to stretch it's legs you might consider modeling the spatial dynamics of the Universe."I hear and I forget. I see and I remember. I do and I understand." — Confucius0 -
64-bit CPU's arent really faster than 32-bit. Its not uncommon for 32 bit to outperform 64 bit. Its all about the way memory is addressed. Since with 64 bit you can address much more memory, this reduces hard disk operations which are slow. It means if you are using apps which use a lot of memory, such as video editing or say large photo editing operations there can be significant performace gains as these can be held entirely in memory without the need for going to the disk.
Are you using a 64-bit version of Windows XP?0
