Sorry can't help re hotels, but I stayed on a campsite near the park and ride and there was a hotel/bar next door. P&R gave easy access to Bath, I braved weatherspoons on a saturday night alone, (forgot it was saturday) and found Bath very easy to get around and felt safe.0

This is a very nice hotel in the centre of everything. Great location overlooking a very pleasant square in the City Centre0 -

What kind of food do you want? If it is cafe, snack type food our favourite is this one

The whole city centre is very safe, and even the 'edgy' bits which are quite a way away are massively lame compared with London/Brum/Liverpool etc.
Francis and Abbey both good options. If you're on a budget, there is a brand new premier inn (not even sure if its open yet - that new!) which is preferable to the travelodges.
If you have extra to spend, try the Royal Crescent Hotel.0
