confused comparison quote

I am currently with SSE energy so thought i would look into switching, a comparison site says it will save me money based on the figures etc but all the companies standing charge and price per unit are higher than SSE, how can it therefore save me money???

Sorry for jumping in on this thread, I hope it's okay.

I've also been confused by comparisons, but because they say it will cost me more when all the prices are the same or less...
My current Tariff Blue+Price Promise June 2014
Electric Unit Rate (Inc VAT) 13.65p
    Electric Daily Standing Charge 18.90p
Gas Unit Rate (Inc VAT) 3.997p
    Gas Daily Standing Charge 26.25p

    New Tariff Option
    Blue+Price Promise March 2015
Electric Unit Rate (Inc VAT) 12.80p
    Electric Daily Standing Charge 18.90p
Gas Unit Rate (Inc VAT) 3.675p
    Gas Daily Standing Charge 26.25p

With all other options (DD, operate online etc) remaining the same, it estimates the B+P March 2015 will cost £6 per year more than the B+P June 2014. How can this be?
Based on annual usage - 14200kwh Gas and 2650kwh Electric, I estimate I should be approx. £70 per year better off and have my prices fixed for another winter. £6 per year is nothing anyway, but it still doesn't make sense.

Based on which figures? Your current SSE tarriff, or their new rates?

There are many other factors to take into account beside SC's and unit costs.: DD discounts, annual loyalty discounts, dual fuel discounts, first tier unt levels etc. Which is why the comp sites do the work accurately for you, as long as you feed them kWh figures.
But as above, are you comparing with the current SSE price, or the one that you will be paying in a month (if not on a fixed tariff)?
