ipad car connection?

Hi, sorry if this is in the wrong section.
I have changed my car and find there is a ipad charging lead in the glove compartment :j Unfortunately when I plug in my ipad a message pops up to say it is not 'synced' sorry I don't remember the exact wording :o
Can anyone please tell me what I need to do to get this up and running?

    What car is it?

    I suspect it's not a charging point, but a USB connector which is linked to the car stereo.
    1. Have you tried to Google the answer?
    2. If you were in the other person's shoes, how would you react?

    Some home iPod docks don't play back from iPads, and I suspect your car stereo may be in the same category.

    What do the instructions for the car or the car stereo say about the compatibility of this socket?
