Three murders in one week, all apparently related to dissident activity.

Shocking that this is going on in our society in 2013.

    Three?

I thought it was two, the park in Belfast & Derry?

    Did I miss one?

I tend to avoid the news where possible.

I could be wrong but I cant help but think that some of whats going on this week is the dissidents response to whats happening within loyalism and the asscociated protests. They're just letting everyone know, to coin a phrase, "they havent gone away you know"

Sadly there was a third one.

I suspect some sort of internal feuding or clearing out of touts, hence the execution style killing in Derry. They're not making any public statement so I don't think it's in response to anything else than internal problems.

They're riddled by Special Branch and MI5 informers you see. They can't move or carry out operations without being arrested. Obviously one man with a gun is harder to pin down however and even more obviously the decision to actually carry out these crimes has been kept between one or two of the top men, otherwise the PSNI would have been waiting on them as they have been so many times recently.

Still, as one wee woman in Derry said on the news: we don't want to go back to those times. Why oh why will these people not accept the will of the Irish people and stop their nonsense?

if they cant move or operate without MI5 knowing and are riddled with MI5, why then do MI5 keep them open? and if these plans for murders are known only to their top men, it suggests that they either Mi5 don't control them or that you are talking nonsense

Did I offend you again Emmett. I am very sorry if that is the case.

I expect the reason they "keep them open" is the same as always, the "intelligence" services use them for their own ends and when they are no longer useful a little bit of disinformation spread around and the result is as seen this week.

Yes you could be right. We've no real idea of what SB or the intelligence services are up to. What we do know is that the dissidents are very well infiltrated. Most arrests I can bring to mind recently have involved catching terrorists on their way to jobs with the gear in their car or van or transporting weapons or explosives and related material. Somebody is tipping the police off every time and it has led to many arrests.

How many will need to be lifted before they stop this nonsense? How many more deaths? Obviously I'm anti-dissident but these men do have families and I think you'd agree there's been enough sadness already.

The people have spoken: why do the dissidents not listen?

there is a difference between lifting suspects and them actually being convicted of anything.

and why do the dissidents not listen, well no doubt they are copying the PIRASF who have shown that if you are successful in terror that you can get to be minister in charge of comfy chairs and fat pensions in stormont. and as this week has shown, the more successful you are, the greater the chance of getting to spend the night in the Queen's Hillsborough bed.

I totally agree. There is a big difference although how people caught with guns or explosives get off is beyond me and I can only remark that we have some very clever lawyers here.

I also agree they're emulating PIRA/SF. The difference is that there is a mandate now which shows that 90% (I think) of Catholics alone in NI want peace. Why don't the dissidents listen? Why do they want to force a non democratic decision on us?

i don't think republicans necessarily listen to what people have to say, sure when Pope John Paul II came in the 70s he asked "on his bended knee" for the provos to turn away from violence, and they ignored him.

these dissident are able to operate due to some degree of community support, and i suspect that support is growing as people in their communities watch the pretty lame efforts of SF in stormont and SF's easy acceptance of Thatcherite Tory social policies.
