Brand New Microsoft Surface RT will not switch on.

My daughter wanted this for college, easy to carry around and she could do her work on it with the office that is pre-installed.Bought it direct from Microsoft with the student discount.

It arrived yesterday. The only instructions are to switch the power button on and follow the onscreen instructions.

The only thing is nothing happens when you press the button.

My first response is that it is faulty but am I missing something here?

I will obviously ring Microsoft first thing monday morning as they are not open over the weekend, I was just wondering in the meantime.

  • Battery could be (but shouldn't be if they rotate their stock correctly) deep discharged. Have you plugged it in? Does it charge?

It was out of stock when I first went to order it, so this should be new stock I would of thought?

Have you tried pressing and holding the power button for several seconds?

    Yes have done that.

There is something wrong with it.

Have had it on charge for two hours, switched it on, and it shows a screen showing repairing your pc and then unable to repair your pc.

Not my week, everything seems to be a problem!

Yes, they were very apologetic and very helpful.

They were out of stock with the bundle(tablet and keyboard cover) so they sent me the equivalent items separately. Arrived yesterday(two days later)
and they have emailed a returns label for UPS to collect the first one from me when I am ready to send it back.

So after a disappointing start daughter is now over the moon with it.

Why is it that when things go wrong everything goes wrong?

Microsoft told me they were refunding me and reordering but I have been charged twice!!

I even rang Tesco credit card to make sure the refund had been put through and was told yes!!!!!! Just checked my statement and it has not.

Now been told by Microsoft they have to wait until the faulty one is received back and checked before they can refund!! Not what they told me before.

I wish I had never ordered the thing now. So beware if you order something like this and it arrives faulty.

So very annoyed with both Microsoft and Tesco for being told incorrect information.
