Sat/Sun 12th/13th Oct What Small DFW Things Will You Be Doing This Weekend?

When we start out on the Debt-Free Wannabe trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the Gym.

But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free...

Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending. :money:

    Morning DFW-Jedis,

Just a quick post as OH and I are going down to the Scottish Boat show which is being held at our local marina. OH has woman-flu :( but has decided she needs some fresh air. Entry will be free and it'll give OH a chance to pursue her photography hobby.

Everyone is welcome to join in, just click Post Reply and share your ideas.

    The List:

    :D
Received annual interest in Savings Account. 85p. Have decided not to conscientiously move every extra spare penny into it and then out again in time to pay bills. This was the best interest rate on the market at the time and it has, as predicted, bought us very little in return. We'll use the account again when we actually have money to save.

:D Checked monthly free Noddle credit report. (Link) I know it's not worth the paper it's printed on but it's gone up from 3/5 to 4/5 which is morale-boosting if nothing else.

:D Take flask of coffee to Boat Show.
    Done.

:D Continue 'weaning' OH onto vegetarian lunches as we've a freezer full of veg. :p

:D Check broadband allowance as we're close to the limit. Fine.

    :D Check online banking. Fine.

:D Check Nectar Points as should soon have £5 to spend at Sainsbury's.
    991/1000 points. Getting there.

    Morning everyone!

A week since I started posting, I'm finding it so motivating I've started O/S weight loss too, for a proper lifestyle makeover :j

    This weekend's list:

    :) FreePostcodeLottery DONE!
:) Give my flat a good clean DONE!
:) Tidying up the walk in wardrobe
:) walking instead of driving to the shops (also good for the weight loss!) Didn't go in the end....
:) staying at my parent's house tonight and using Mum's car tomorrow for stuff I have to do (saves me petrol, food, electricity... yay! Also will wash my hair there tomorrow)
    :) CompetitionsDONE!
    :) Check bank accounts DONE!
:) Going to get an electric blanket today from Argos so can use some of the Nectar points I've collected from AdPoints! Uses less electricity than putting on the little heater or whole heating to keep toasty on winter nights, so hopefully MoneySaving in the long run. DONE!
:) Keep the heating off! DONE!
:) Unplug phone charger during the day DONE!
:) Dry washing on airer DONE!

Have a great day everyone xx

    Morning peeps!

Thanks for starting us Ally. I've been AWOL for a while due to ridiculously busy and stressful work/home life. Needing to get the balance sorted again. Have been pushed back onto here as my weekly shopping bill has crept up to £95 a week! This is for 2 adults, a 17yr old girl (my sister now lives with us) and a 5 year old with a cows milk allergy. This is far too much and mainly due to laziness so this is my new focus.

    So today I have/will:
    - Checked online banking for all accounts
    - Work 8-2pm for £100 overtime
    - Make lunch/snacks to last me all morning
    - Declined offer of technician to pop to the shop for me!
    - Look online (Argos/Mr T's click and collect) for cheap birthday present for friends 1 year old. Purchase straight from work.
    - Home from work, pick up DD and DSister change and straight to birthday party
    - Free food/drink at party (stick to diet)
    - Update spreadsheets accordingly
    - NSD aside from the above
    - Do freezer/cupboard inventory, only have £18 in food budget for the last week in the month, this will NEVER work so need to be clever!
    - Get OH to put up DD's TV wall bracket and blitz her bedroom
    - Get DSister to bake for college/school lunches
    - Try on clothes to see what fits and what doesn't due to weight loss. Identify any new items I need and search on ebay.
    - General housework to keep out of spending trouble!
    - Sparkle!

    Jx
Nothing to report as yet...give me a minute...!

    Morning all,
    Today's small money-saving things:
*NSD. mr f has to work today so I don't have the car & it's pouring with rain. Even cat is on wet playtime.
*Meals as per meal plans. Remembered to get mince out of freezer for tonight's chilli.
*Catch up on surveys until boredom threshold kicks in.
*Finish neck on Christmas present jumper & sew it up.
*Cast on next Christmas knitting project (very money saving, as am using the leftover yarn from the jumper)
    *Enter a few competitions.
*Checked energy use of de-humidifier. Hmmm. Costs 2p more an hour to run on high setting than on low setting, so will carry on turning it right down if no laundry drying or condensation & off when mild enough to open windows.
*Saved hot water from morning coffee in flask ready to use for next one, as kettle boils much more quickly.
*Cardigan & thick black tights ON, heating still OFF.
*Relist some ebay items, as received free listings email.
OK, must crack on.......ebay listings next on the list, as I want that pile shifted. Clearing-up-itis today.
Welcome back Josie, I felt your pain when I read that weekly shopping amount.....Ouch! It's amazing how quickly it can start creeping up again, usually when life has been busy & planning starts to slip a bit, but you know you can pull it back.
    Ebay here I come.......

    Hi everyone
    • I'm taking the dog a big long walk - free exercise and all that :D
    • Crocheting baby cardi - hopefully finish it this weekend
    • Crochet black hat - no Accessorize for me!! :p
    • Cleaning and tidying - usual weekend rubbish :)
    • Reading free kindle book
    • Lesson planning for classes
    • Checking in online for my holibags :T :j :T
    • Generally just chilling out :D

Got a good bargain yesterday on trainers - bought boys rather than adults :T

Just found out the shop at the bottom of the hill is going to be an aldi and a home bargains :T That'll be good for us.

Also been thinking about a car again - thinking about a long term lease type deal @ £130 a month. I finished paying my course last month so that's an extra £86 in the pot plus the £40 or so travel there so I'm almost there... Lots to think about...

Nice to hear from you all

La E - Re your cheaper trainers, yes, that sometimes works for me too, with shoes. I'm only a size 5, so when children's sections go up to a 5, I do sometimes have a look, as they can be a lot cheaper. Obviously a lot of the stuff is too kiddy to wear, but I can remember searching everywhere for some boots for my wedding, & finally found some (soft black leather, heels & lovely diamante....) in the children's section at Ravel's! Also once found some rather funky platforms in the 'back to school' section.

    1. Spend an hour on ironing mountain

Ironing !! Not one of my favourite hobbies but in an hour i'd probably manage about two and half shirts.

I am a avid football fan of my local Team Dover Athletic but they charge £13 + £2 for a seat at a home game and I am not prepared to fork this out 21 times this season due to being skint so I have volunteered at the club and as a result I get free entry :D

    Result!
