Then you must have quite a lot of crud under your windows directory
    I must admit I agree.
See these... W8(64bit) first and then W7(32bit) , Obviously the W8(.1) is fairly new , but the W7 is very old

A further update: I saved around 5 GB now so I now have 9 GB free space on my SSD, so I am satisfied with that. Thank you everybody for your help.

Windows7 shouldn't use up anywhere near 60GB, so where has the space gone

Not too sure. My Windows installation is just under 20 GB:

and the largest folder in Windows is winsxs with 7.7 GB:

and the largest folder in winsxs is Backup with 548 MB.

I do have 4 user accounts but all docs etc are on the hard disk.
I'm still confused as to where my space has gone, but now I've regained 9 GB free space that seems fine and I will keep an eye on it.

While all of the above is good stuff my own opinion, and the reason I put an SSD in my laptop is speed, speed for all disk activity.

I know so many people who, for financial reasons, bought a small SSD for the operating system only. All well and good and they now have a machine that boots and shuts down quickly.

However, most of their software and/or the associated data are on HDDs and programs are still slow to start once the PC has booted. A lot of these people are now frustrated by this and wish they'd opted for a larger SSD.

I opt for a large SSD, 480GB, in my MacBook with everything on it and I have a machine that does everything a quicker than it did. My email client, documents, spreadsheets, everything start almost instantly.

I think the biggest problem is that people look at the SDD cost, in my case £280, and then compare what a similar HDD costs and get all money saving :money: and go for the cheaper alternate and a half way solution of mixed drives.

I am also going to replace the 1TB HDD in my desktop, iMac, with a large SSD now that they are becoming available.

Crucial do a 960GB SSD for £461 and I'm very tempted. I may wait a couple of months and see what happens to prices but I will be doing it at some point in the not to distant future.
One by one the penguins are slowly stealing my sanity.
